Navien NPE240S2 199,000 btu/h Tankless Water Heater
The Powerhouse for Large Families.
The Navien NPE-240S2 (Standard Series) is the heavy lifter of the Navien lineup. Boasting a massive 199,900 BTU heating capacity, it delivers the same sheer volume of hot water as the top-tier commercial units but strips away the internal recirculation pump to save you money.
Is the "S2" Right for You? This unit is designed for Large Detached Homes (2,500+ sq. ft.) with standard plumbing. If you don't have a dedicated recirculation loop and simply want the most powerful tankless heater on the market to fill your soaker tub or run 3 showers at once, the NPE-240S2 is your perfect match.
Key Benefits:
- Unmatched Capacity: With 199k BTU, it refuses to quit. Run the shower, laundry, and dishwasher simultaneously without a drop in pressure.
- Cost-Effective Performance: Why pay for a recirculation pump you can't use? Get "A-Series" power at an "S-Series" price.
- 0.96 UEF Efficiency: One of the most efficient units available, qualifying for maximum rebates while slashing your gas bill.
- Dual Stainless Steel: Built with Navien's legendary dual stainless steel heat exchangers for durability that outlasts traditional copper units.

NAVIEN NPE-S standard Series Tankless Water Heater FAQs
Answered by 4Most Energy Experts
What is the difference between the Navien NPE-240S2 and the NPE-240A2?
The "S" stands for Standard. The primary difference is that the NPE-S2 Series does not have the built-in "ComfortFlow" recirculation pump and buffer tank found in the A2 Series. The S2 is more budget-friendly while delivering the exact same heating power (199,900 BTU) and efficiency (0.96 UEF).
Does the NPE-240S2 provide instant hot water?
No. Like a traditional water heater, there will be a standard wait time for hot water to travel from the utility room to your tap. If "instant" hot water at the faucet is a priority, we recommend the NPE-A2 Series.
Does the NPE-S2 have a built-in recirculation pump?
No, the NPE-S2 Standard Series does not include a built-in pump. However, if your home is already equipped with a dedicated recirculation line and an external pump, 4Most Energy can successfully hook it up to your new NPE-S2 system during installation
What if my home does NOT have a dedicated recirculation line?
If you don't have a dedicated return line, we strongly recommend going with the NPE-A2 Series (Advanced). We can install a NaviCirc® Valve (thermal crossover valve) under your furthest sink. This allows the NPE-A2 to use your existing cold water lines to create a recirculation path without any additional plumbing or tearing up walls.
Can the NPE-S2 be used as a heating source for an air handler (Combi application)?
Yes, it can. 4Most Energy can expertly configure this unit to supply hot water to a hydronic air handler for home heating. This application requires professional design and installation to ensure the heat exchanger is not overworked, mixing valves and pumps are adjusted correctly, and thermal expansion is managed. As long as it is installed correctly by our team, this is a highly effective and budget-friendly heating solution.
Can the NPE-S2 be used for commercial applications like multi-unit buildings, restaurants, or spas?
Yes, it can. 4Most Energy can expertly configure this unit to supply hot water to a hydronic air handler for home heating. This application requires professional design and installation to ensure the heat exchanger is not overworked, mixing valves and pumps are adjusted correctly, and thermal expansion is managed. As long as it is installed correctly by our team, this is a highly effective and budget-friendly heating solution.
Does 4Most Energy offer financing for all NPE-S2 models?
Yes. We provide flexible financing options:
3-month no-payment
12-month equal payments
24-month equal payments
60-month low-monthly plans
What maintenance is required for the NPE-S2 Series?
4Most Energy recommends:
Annual inspection
Descaling every 2–3 years
Cleaning inlet filters once a year Routine maintenance protects efficiency and warranty coverage.
