What is the difference between R-410A models and the new Puron Advance™ R-454B models?
The HVAC industry is transitioning to next-generation, eco-friendly refrigerants to meet new environmental regulations. Older models use R-410A, while new models use Puron Advance™ (R-454B), which reduces global warming potential by roughly 78%. Because R-454B has a different safety classification (A2L), these systems require advanced factory-installed mitigation controls, such as automatic leak detection sensors and dissipation boards. Due to these additional safety components and advanced engineering, the equipment price for the new R-454B models is higher than older R-410A units. However, they offer better future-proofing, higher efficiency, and a much smaller carbon footprint.
Will a new Carrier Comfort AC match my existing furnace?
In most cases, yes! You can typically keep your existing furnace, but you will need to replace your indoor evaporator coil (the part sitting right above your furnace). Because next-generation R-454B systems operate with new safety requirements, they cannot use older R-410A coils. 4Most Energy installs specialized mitigation controls to seamlessly connect your new AC components to your existing furnace blower. However, since older blowers can sometimes impact your new AC's maximum efficiency, it's highly recommended to have our team evaluate your current setup.
