Installed Right, Not Just Supplied

High-performance equipment alone doesn't guarantee the result — correct water loop balancing, ductwork sizing, and ESA-compliant electrical work are what actually determine comfort and efficiency.

4Most Energy supplies and installs every SmartSource Compact unit to Ontario code, serving Toronto and the GTA from ceiling access through final commissioning.

  • R-32 low-GWP refrigerant — a GWP of 675 versus 2,088 for R-410A, with up to 40% less refrigerant charge required in comparable applications.
  • Single- or two-stage compressor — WSDH two-stage models precisely match part-load demand, reducing cycling and improving comfort versus single-stage-only competitors.
  • MicroTech® unit controller with LED annunciator sight glass for at-a-glance fault diagnosis, and optional BACnet® communication for building automation integration.
  • Convertible discharge configuration — fan assembly rotates 180° in the field to switch between straight and end discharge, simplifying retrofits into existing ductwork.
  • Copper inner-tube coaxial heat exchanger, with a cupronickel coil option for added corrosion resistance on demanding water loops.
  • Filtration options from 1" disposable up to 4" MERV 13, in rack-mount or bottom-access configurations.
  • Waterside economizer and hot gas reheat/simplified dehumidification options available for enhanced free-cooling and humidity control.
  • AHRI certified, ETL/Intertek listed, and manufactured to ASHRAE 90.1-exceeding efficiency targets.

Sizing Guide

SmartSource Compact units are sized by nominal cooling capacity (sizes 007 through 070, corresponding to ½ through 6 tons).

Correct sizing depends on the served zone's square footage, glazing/exposure, occupancy, and the existing ductwork's airflow capacity — not simply matching the nameplate of the unit being removed, since older Carrier, Keeprite, Lennox, and McQuay units were sometimes oversized by the standards of their era.

4Most Energy performs a load calculation and ductwork/water flow verification as part of every quote to confirm the correct size (007–070) and stage configuration (single- vs. two-stage) before ordering.

  • Site assessment — existing unit inspection (brand, model, condition), water loop and electrical evaluation, ductwork condition check.
  • Load calculation and unit sizing — confirm correct WSCH/WSDH size and configuration (cabinet hand, discharge orientation).
  • Ceiling access and lift setup — open the ceiling tile or cut a drywall access panel above the unit and position a lift to safely reach and support the equipment.
  • Isolation and disconnection — lockout/tagout of electrical and water loop; safe removal of the old unit (refrigerant recovery if applicable).
  • Suspension and mounting — new hanger rods, brackets, and vibration isolators installed to structural requirements.
  • Water piping and ductwork connections — braided stainless supply/return hoses, isolation valves/strainer, condensate drain with trap, and duct collar tie-in with acoustic lining.
  • Electrical connection — ESA-compliant hookup to the building's dedicated circuit and disconnect.
  • Commissioning — Check, Test & Start per Daikin Applied protocol, including flow rate, temperature differential, and refrigerant circuit verification, with warranty registration on file.
  • Ceiling close-up, patch, and paint — the access opening is closed, drywall patched, and painted to match the surrounding ceiling before the crew leaves site.

Every high-rise loop system is different — the right SmartSource Compact size and configuration depends on details a spec sheet can't tell us.

Before we quote your replacement or new install, we'll ask:

  1. Is this a repair, a full replacement, or a new installation — and if replacing, what brand and model is currently up there (a photo of the ceiling access panel and unit label helps us confirm)?
  2. What is the current condenser water loop configuration and temperature range?
  3. What is the unit's current or required orientation (straight discharge vs. end discharge, left-hand vs. right-hand)?
  4. What is the served space's square footage and current comfort issue (if any)?
  5. Is the existing electrical service and disconnect adequate, or will an upgrade be needed?

Warranty

Daikin Applied backs every SmartSource Compact unit with a standard 12-month parts warranty from start-up (or 18 months from ship date, whichever occurs first). Extended coverage — up to 4 years on the compressor, refrigerant circuit, or complete unit, with optional first-year or 5-year labor allowances — is available at the time of purchase. 4Most Energy handles warranty registration and the required Check, Test & Start documentation on your behalf.

Warranty and Maintenance

Standard warranty: 12 months parts from start-up or 18 months from ship date, whichever occurs first.

Extended warranty options (1-year or 4-year, on compressor only, refrigerant circuit, or complete unit, with optional labor allowances) are available at purchase — 4Most Energy will review the right level of coverage for your building's usage profile.

Ongoing maintenance is minimal: motors are permanently lubricated and require no oiling.

Filters should be checked every 60 days initially and adjusted to your building's actual lint/dust load thereafter; the condensate drain pan should be inspected and flushed annually; and strainers on the water loop connection should be inspected regularly.

4Most Energy offers scheduled maintenance plans that cover filter changes, condensate pan cleaning, refrigerant circuit checks, and annual performance logging.

Frequently Asked Questions

Look for a removable ceiling tile or small access panel with no visible equipment in the room — just a grille or duct register. If a technician has ever opened that panel to change a filter, that's this unit. It's the standard equipment type in office buildings, retail spaces, and condominium-style commercial buildings, and it's also common behind the ceiling in individual condo suites. Send us a photo if you're not sure.

In most cases, yes — the horizontal ceiling-suspended footprint, duct collar locations, and water connections are compatible with standard retrofit practice, though 4Most Energy always verifies exact dimensions and cabinet hand/discharge configuration before ordering.

Yes. We service and repair existing water source heat pumps of any brand, not only Daikin. If your unit is fixable and doesn't need full replacement, we'll tell you that upfront rather than push a new install.

Yes, for a replacement or new install — the unit sits above the ceiling, so we open a tile or cut a drywall access panel, bring in a lift to safely support the equipment, and close, patch, and paint the opening to match your ceiling before we leave. Repairs on an existing unit sometimes only need the existing access panel opened, with no patching required.

No. Each unit isolates independently at its own supply/return connections, so only the zone being serviced is affected.

The WSDH's two-stage compressor better matches part-load conditions, reducing cycling and improving comfort and efficiency versus the single-stage WSCH, at a modest cost premium.

Yes — R-32 is a mildly flammable (A2L) refrigerant used safely worldwide in sealed HVAC systems; it must be installed and serviced by a licensed refrigeration technician, which 4Most Energy provides on every job.

Most single-unit horizontal WSHP replacements in occupied condo or office space, including ceiling patch and paint, are completed in a single day, minimizing disruption to the tenant.
