The Carrier 38MHRCQ Comfort Series ductless heat pump is designed for single-zone applications where comfort is needed without adding or extending ductwork. It connects an outdoor heat pump unit to a compatible indoor fan coil using refrigerant piping and electrical wiring, making it a practical option for renovations, additions, rooms above garages, basements, sunrooms, and spaces that are difficult to serve with a conventional ducted system.

This system uses inverter technology, allowing the compressor to vary its speed based on indoor and outdoor temperature conditions. Instead of repeatedly cycling on and off, the system adjusts output to help maintain more consistent room temperatures and improve comfort. Carrier notes benefits such as rapid pull-down or warm-up, improved humidity control through longer run times, low sound operation, microprocessor controls, auto restart, auto changeover, diagnostics, and built-in protection features.

Professional installation is important because ductless heat pump performance depends on proper equipment sizing, line-set length, refrigerant charge, electrical supply, mounting location, and outdoor clearance. The 38MHRCQ uses R-410A refrigerant. Carrier specifies minimum outdoor clearances, minimum piping length, maximum piping length, allowable lift, voltage requirements, refrigerant charge, and refrigerant connection sizes by model. The outdoor unit must also be mounted at least 2 inches above the maximum anticipated snow depth, and inverter-driven outdoor units cannot be stacked.

Manufacturer Parts Warranty

Carrier Comfort Series heat pumps are covered by a limited parts warranty. For residential applications, parts are covered for 10 years to the original owner when properly registered within 90 days of original installation; otherwise, the parts warranty is 5 years, except where registration-based warranty limits are prohibited. Subsequent owners receive 5 years of parts coverage.

The warranty also states that the product must be installed properly by a licensed HVAC technician, remain in the original installation location, and be used and maintained according to the installation instructions, owner’s manual, and service information.

4Most Energy Labour Warranty

4Most Energy labour warranty coverage is provided according to the installation invoice or project agreement. Labour coverage terms should be confirmed at the time of purchase and may vary by installation scope.

Warranty Claim Process

For warranty service, the Carrier warranty document directs the owner to contact the installer. Defective parts must be returned through a registered servicing dealer for credit.

I was very pleased with the competitive pricing I got specifically from 4most energy. I contacted many companies to get their best quote. Sometimes there are even daughter or sister companies that will give you better quotes than the parent companies. It's best to check around for the identical product with installation from many companies. I was also pleased with the installers. They did have to cut away some insulation to install the Rinnai RX199 on the outside wall the house. Not sure if they should have tried replacing that insulation afterwards, but won't complain about the job they did because I think I got the best price on the market after getting quotes from about a dozen companies.
